Abstract

Immigration literature is a kind of literary genre in contemporary time created by the growth of immigration phenomenon and its effects. The main themes of this genre, like hybrid identity, otherness and imitation of language, culture and concepts of orientalism have attracted the attention of postcolonial critics. In this respect, the present study applied a content analysis method on a Persian immigration novel called “Postal card” by Roohangiz Sharifiyan in order to study the prominent elements of postcolonial approach in this novel. The present novel is a field of conflicts between elements, signs, and values of two different cultures. It reflects the cultural conflicts, personal and social problems of immigrants and their critical point of views about the cultures of two different countries. The immigrants who are humiliated and considered as others in the target land have tried to follow the norms of the host culture in different ways and make they more familiar with it by using the host language. However, their dependence to the native language and culture makes them afflicted with an identity crisis, dilemma and dichotomy and their remembering of memories reveals their nostalgia and desire to return home.
