Successful treatment of the second and fourth metatarsal fractures (splint) of the horse in field conditions

Abstract

A ۵-year-old Turkish-Arabs Mare was presented with left hind limb severe lameness. The vital signs were normal and there was no specific Underlying disease. Radiological assessments showed an oblique and closed fracture of the second and fourth metatarsal bones (splint). The patient was placed under general anesthesia and the limb was put in the cast. Recovery from an uncomplicated anesthetic was performed. After ۸ weeks The patient had incomplete Weighing with moderate lameness. For another ۸ weeks’ recommendation was made on physiotherapy. After ۱۶ weeks of fracture, complete weighing and mild lameness were observed.
